A Different World DVD

A Different World is an American television situation comedy that is a spin-off of the popular tv series 'The Cosby Show'. It centers around sophomore Denise Huxtable's - one of the four daughters on The Cosby Show - college experiences in the fictional Hillman College, a black college in the South. Other notable characters in the show includes Denise's roommates Jaleesa Vinson (Dawnn Lewis), a young divorcee, and Maggie Lauten (Marisa Tomei), one of the few white students on the campus, her friends Whitley Gilbert (Jasmine Guy), Dwayne Wayne (Kadeem Hardison), Ron Johnson (Darryl Bell) and Gym Teacher/Dorm Directer Walter Oakes (Sinbad).

A Different World dealt mainly with college-themed issues such as racism, fraternity pledging, on-campus romances and several other social and political issues - issues that were said to be avoided by the Cosby Show writers. The series' original run was from September 24, 1987 to July 9, 1993 on NBC. It garnered a total of 12 awards and 4 nominations in its 6 season run (144 episodes).
