Cheers was a television situation comedy set at Cheers, a bar in Boston, owned and managed by Sam Malone (Ted Danson), a womanizing former Red Sox relief pitcher. The Cheers Bar is where a group of locals would usually meet up to drink and have fun. Among the regulars are Cliff (John Ratzenberger), Norm (George Wenddt) and neurotic psychiatrist Frasier Crane (Kelsey Grammer). Waitress Dianne (Shelly Long), whom Sam has an on-off romantic involvement, and Coach (Ernie Colasanto later replaced by Woody Harrelson), a slow-witted bartender are some of the staff working in the bar where everybody knows your name, Cheers.
Cheers aired from September 30, 1982 to May 20, 1993 on NBC, earning top 10 ratings for seven of it's eleven seasons. The show also managed to receive 26 Emmy awards (117 nominations) and 6 Golden Globe awards (31 nominations).
